5 Key Elements to Creating Abundance
How to go from overwhelmed and busy to calm, collected and creating the life you want
How would you feel if you let go of the overwhelm and busyness that takes over and instead learned how to create the calm, abundant life of your dreams?
If we want to create a life of abundance we need to do some inner work and look at what we do, how we do it, and really, why we do it. Abundance flows to those that are invested in creating it in their life. It’s not a wish or a hope for someday. It’s actionable and specific.
Let’s define the word abundance and understand what exactly it is we are trying to create.
There are a few ways we can define abundance. When we look at the material aspect of abundance it usually means a large quantity of something, which typically relates to money or wealth. If we look at it from a spiritual, much more holistic aspect, it’s more about an appreciation of life and living your life to its fullest. It is finding joy and strength in body, mind, and soul.
The thing about abundance is, it’s out there just waiting for you. There is enough to go around. To truly live a life of abundance means getting in line with your purpose, understanding your unique gifts and talents, and blossoming into the most authentic and wholehearted you you’re meant to be.
No matter who you are, or what you want, we can all learn how to create that life of abundance that we desire and deserve.
Here are the 5 key elements to creating a life of abundance.
- Master your Mindset – Understand Your Why
The real truth behind abundance is understanding what it means to you, and then identifying what you want and why you want it.
As a society, we are told all the time what to buy, what to have, what will make us happy. But in reality, getting all those things doesn’t truly make us happy. Why is that? Because just having stuff isn’t what abundance is all about.
When we look at abundance it’s about having an appreciation and joy for the life we live. It’s about creating an authentic, wholehearted life where we feel empowered and purposeful in what we do.
Mastering your mindset about abundance starts with understanding your why, and then believing in that why wholeheartedly.
There’s a great saying, “What you focus on, you create more of.” If your why is in alignment with your core values then you will create a life full of abundance. Focus on and stay excited and obsessed with your why. Create an affirmation that is consistent with your values and the abundant life you are creating. Post it on your computer, your phone, hang it on the mirror, wherever you will see it every day. Focus on the why to create your abundant life.
- Tame your Inner Critic – Stop Letting the Critic Control You
We all have that nagging little voice that rears its ugly head claiming we don’t deserve whatever it is we’re trying to get. You’re not good enough. You’re not worthy. Money doesn’t grow on trees. Who do you think you are? You haven’t paid your dues, yet. And the list goes on and on. We’ve all heard that annoying little inner critic that keeps us focusing on what we think we don’t deserve rather than moving us towards the abundant life we truly desire.
Those limiting beliefs that the inner critic is quick to yell out anytime we think we can do something different came from somewhere. A parent, a teacher, the media, someone, sometime made some statements or drilled it into our heads about our worthiness and ability to have. Now when we are trying to work towards a better, more abundant life, they rear up and keep us feeling stuck and not worthy.
Abundance is about the mindset and understanding our why for wanting. As we move towards taming the inner critic, we need to understand where our belief on abundance and worthiness came from.
Creating abundance is about understanding our worthiness, our ability to have, and our beliefs about money, wealth, prosperity, success, etc. By identifying our beliefs and updating the old, outdated programming, we can move forward toward a life of abundance.
What are your thoughts about your worthiness? About money? About having?
Look back at your life and to your parents, guardian, or whoever was the key adult(s) in your life as you were growing up. What were their thoughts about money? How did they spend it? What did they teach you about money? How did you grow up in relation to having and the ability to have. Take some time to think about and then write out the beliefs you have as it relates to your growing up.
Once you have those beliefs written out, write out your own beliefs about abundance. Are they really the same as what you grew up with or are there differences? Spend some more time journaling about your own beliefs as it relates to abundance and having. Come up with as many beliefs you can that are true or truer than the old beliefs.
When we reframe the beliefs into more empowering and truer beliefs, we stop allowing the old monologue about worthiness and abundance to have that control over us.
- Step out of Your Comfort Zone – and Get out of Your Own Way
Does this sound familiar? I’d like to but – I’m not good enough yet – I need more education/training/practice – I’ll be ready eventually – the time’s just not right – I just need to loose (fill in the blank) pounds – and then I’ll be ready to create the abundant life of my dreams.
We unintentionally sabotage our efforts and our moving towards abundance by using these and many more excuses and justifications. We call this imposter syndrome. These are the doubts about our own skills and abilities, that no matter how much training we get or how successful we become, how much weight we lose, how many perfect selfies we post on social media, we will be found out as being an imposter.
I’ve heard them all many times within my own self and all they do is keep us playing small and staying stuck. Instead we need to learn to Play BIG.
We do this by taking imperfect action. It means putting it out there even when we know it’s not “perfect”. If we always wait for perfect, we will be waiting a very long time. Perfectionism is at the root of imposter syndrome. It’s the belief that we need to be perfect, to look a certain way, to lose another 10 pounds, to create the perfect course or class, have the perfect bio, resume, job, education, or whatever it is we think we need to finally be ready to move to the next step.
You are ready for the next step no matter where you are at in your life. This week, make a plan to take one BIG step towards doing what you want to do and be prepared to do it imperfectly. It’s time to get out of your own way and move towards creating your abundant life.
- Listen to Your Inner Mentor – Meet Your Inner Wise Self
Who is your inner mentor? It is the inner most part of you that knows that you are capable of achieving whatever you set your mind to. It is the part of you that roots you on even when things don’t go the way you thought it was supposed to. It is that amazing, wonderful, older and wiser version of yourself that can help you to figure it out now and guide you to becoming that amazing, older, and wiser self.
Imagine yourself 5, 10 or even 15 years from now. Who are you? Where are you? What abundance have you created in your life? Imagine what you look like, where you live, what you do, who is with you, all of it. This is your older, wiser self.
Now imagine walking up to your older self and asking the question – What do I need to do to get to this point? Ask your older self, anything that is pertinent to helping you to achieve a life of abundance.
Our inner mentor is there to guide us on this journey. He or she may be hard to hear at first but with a little practice, you will start to recognize that wonderful version of you and all the wonderful wisdom you offer.
- Shut up and Show Up – Stop Making Excuses
Ok, here is where the rubber meets the road. We can think it all day long and figure out why we want it. We can look at our limiting beliefs. We can make a plan to go BIG. We can visualize our older abundant self. But if we never actually DO anything to move our dream forward then it will never happen.
We need to start showing up and doing the work.
Goal setting is important to creating and achieving your dreams. Have you heard of SMART goals?
Specific – make sure your goal is specific and not vague. The clearer and more concise the goal is, the better.
Measurable – define what will show that you made progress.
Attainable – make sure you can reasonably attain the goal you set out. It’s great to think big when creating your dream life but keep the goals reasonable and most importantly doable.
Relevant – your goals should align to you vision and your values. Remember your why for creating the life you want.
Time based – set realistic, yet ambitious time frame with a specified date to get the goal completed by.
Using the SMART goal technique, start by setting your main monthly goals, usually only two or three. Any more than three and it gets harder to focus on and complete the goals. The point is to help take away the overwhelm and not add to it by adding even more to your plate.
Once the main goals are set, break them each into mini goals or tasks that need to be done to achieve the main goal. Identify any challenges or competing priorities that may come up and figure out ways to overcome the challenges. All of this helps to identify what needs to be done and to have an action plan to get it completed.
Abundance is out there just waiting for us to create it and grab it. It is available to EVERYONE, no matter who you are, what your circumstances are, or what you think you should have. If you are looking to create more in your life, then don’t wait any longer and start making it happen.
