What is a Belonger?

My husband and I love to travel and have spent many trips exploring various islands in the Caribbean.

It was on one of these trips that we first heard the term, Belonger.

We were out for a day sail, ready to do some snorkeling and kick back on some of the neighboring islands. And of course enjoy their fabulous beach bars with the super fun tropical drinks.

We asked our captain what is a Belonger?

Captain Mike told us it’s a term used to describe someone who “belongs” on the island.  Someone gets a Belonger status by virtue of brith, having been born on the island.  Or it could refer to someone who had lived on the island long enough and was an active part of the community.

In essence, a Belonger, is someone who belongs.  It is a sense of belonging.

At Belonger Yoga, as you journey through your path of self-discovery, I hope you to will find that sense of belonging, within your family, your community and within yourself.

True belonging is the spiritual practice of believing in and belonging to yourself so deeply that you can share your most authentic self with the world and find sacredness in both being a part of something and standing alone in the world.  True belonging doesn’t require you to change who you are; it requires you to be who you are – Brene Brown

Hello fellow yogis!

My name is Karrie and I am so happy that you are here.

My yoga journey started about twenty years ago when a co-worker finally convinced me to go to a yoga class with her.  I had always imagined yoga to be a slow moving, relaxed sort of stretching and not the ninety minute powerful Vinyasa class I attended.

I was hooked.

I “did” yoga for many years, and throughout life happening (divorce, single parenthood, empty nesting, career changes, graduate school, and you know all that other “life” stuff) sometimes would not do a class for months or longer.

A few years ago I decided I needed to get back to it and make a commitment to myself to really begin a solid yoga practice and this began an whole new path for me.

I was finally able to cross Yoga Teacher Training off my bucket list!

I began to learn what yoga really was and it was amazing and fascinating to realize yoga is more than powerful poses and Vinyasas.

What I discovered was the amazing power yoga has to transform us into our true and authentic selves.

Life happens and when it does, yoga has much to offer to help us through those transitions.

I recently moved from the beautiful Pacific Northwest and now call sunny Arizona my home.  My wonderful husband and I have five grown up kids and five beautiful grand kiddos.  We love to travel, especially anywhere a beach is involved!  I enjoy hiking, walking the beaches, reading, wine tasting, and of course yoga.

Thanks for joining me.

Karrie
